In the Danish healthcare sector many admissions are due to unconscious oversights in people's own homes, for example due to dehydration or medication errors. This is typically seen with older people and people with dementia, but also younger people with a chronic disease, but also with children that deliberately stop themselves from eating and drinking during the school day to avoid using the school toilet, which can lead to premature incontinence. Besides, relatives or healthcare professionals may wish to follow up on senior citizens, while parents may wish to ensure that their children eat, drink and go to the toilet during the school day.
Thus, many citizens require reminders and some kind of monitoring to actively prevent illnesses or hospitalizations. In the project "Reminder Watch", Patient@home highlights these requirements.
Purpose
The project focuses on developing a simple reminder watch that in a discrete way reminds people about their daily activities, such as medication, toileting or dinnertime. The watch is intended for a wide audience, from kids to people with mild dementia, with the twofold purpose of making people independent and minimizing the risk of falling ill and being hospitalized due to oversights.
It is the aim of this project, through involvement of citizens, caregivers and healthcare professionals, to develop and commercialise a reminder watch that caters to a wide audience - from kids to people with mild dementia. The purpose is to make citizens independent of others and minimise the risk of diseases and hospitalization caused by oversights, and avoid illnesses that are due to deliberate omissions - e.g. through monitoring.
The project is expected to run until 2015 with subsequent launches targeted at selected groups.
