Remembering simple everyday tasks can present a challenge to people with impaired cognitive functioning. Consequently, they may need help from relatives and/or caregivers. In the project "Dementia at home", the company Tele Call has developed a prototype of a very simplified operating system for smartphones and tablets aimed at people with mild dementia. The system supports and addresses some of the challenges that people with impaired cognitive functioning encounter in their everyday life, thus enabling and encouraging them to take better care of themselves.
The system contains a few simple functions such as a calendar with image options that may help people to remember their agreements, a number of instructions on how to perform everyday activities such as making coffee or washing clothes, and a story feature that by means of pictures can recall various episodes in the citizen's life.
Vision and Purpose
In the project "Control system for people with impaired cognitive functioning", Patient@home elaborates the results and lessons learned from "Dementia at home." The project's goal is to enable people with an impaired cognitive functioning level to function adequately and efficiently in everyday life without having to rely on help from relatives or caregivers. In this regard, the project will stimulate the existing cognitive functioning. Thus, the vision is to increase the value and dignity of life for people with cognitive disabilities.
The project is expected to lead to the following specific objectives:
